Public invited to see emerging concepts for new stadium and riverside

Stadium for Bath is to launch the next round of consultation on its vision for a new leisure, sporting and community destination at the Rec.

The project, which brings together Bath Rugby, Bath Rugby Foundation and Arena 1865, hopes to deliver a new community-focused stadium which will act as a catalyst for riverside regeneration in the heart of the World Heritage City.

Over the past 18 months, Stadium for Bath has worked closely with key stakeholders across the cityincluding near neighbours and wider resident groups, local businesses, community groups, schools, city stakeholders and planning and technical stakeholders to understand their aspirations for the scheme. The design team has developed emerging concepts for creating new world-class facilities to benefit the city, wider community and the Club, with a particular emphasis on the broader civic legacy value.

The proposals include plans for the regeneration of the riverside between North Parade and Pulteney Bridge. The eastern bank of the River Avon adjacent to the Rec has the potential to become a new destination for residents and visitors to historic Bath, with the possibility of improved access to the city centre.

The Stadium for Bath public exhibition will be held in the Ricoh Suite, in the South Stand of Bath’s current stadium at the Rec, from 12pm to 7pm on Wednesday 25thand Thursday 26thJuly, 10am to 5pm on Friday 27thJuly and 10am to 4pm on Saturday 28thJuly.

At the event there will be the opportunity to speak with members of the project team, ask questions and give feedback on the initial emerging concept ideas.

For those who are unable to attend the event, all of the information will also be available via Cheapest Tramadol Cod along with an online feedback form.

Chief Executive of Bath Rugby Tarquin McDonald said:

“This is an exciting time for the city as we progress to the next stage of consultation on Stadium for Bath’s vision to create a new destination in the heart of Bath that benefits everyone.

“Sport brings people together and has the power to make a profoundly positive impact on our communities and those who live within them.

“We believe that rugby can act as a catalyst for regeneration in the heart of the city, providing the opportunity to keep sport, not just rugby, alive in Bath, which we hope will inspire people to get involved, to get active and which will help promote overall wellbeing.

“This is also a unique opportunity to regenerate a neglected area of riverside creating a new space that we can all enjoy.

“The Rec is set in a wonderful part of our city and we have been working closely with our landlord Bath Recreation Limited, various organisations throughout the city and the local community to bring forward a scheme that is befitting to both its iconic location and its World Heritage status.”

HUGE OPPORTUNITY FOR RIVERSIDE REGENERATION

You are invited to share ideas on improving city riverside

Stadium for Bath – the project that brings together Bath Rugby, Bath Rugby Foundation and Arena 1865 with the joint ambition of creating a new sport and community-focused destination in the heart of the city – is calling on you to have your say.

Redevelopment of Bath Rugby’s current stadium is the catalyst for the project, which offers a unique and timely opportunity to regenerate the riverside in the heart of the city, adjacent to the Rec.

This important part of the city centre, which has been long overlooked has the potential to become a vibrant new leisure destination for residents and visitors of Bath, with the added opportunity for improving access to the area from the city centre.

Bath Rugby’s current stadium at the Rec has for years faced away from the city centre leaving little scope for public realm development. With the commencement of the Stadium for Bath project – which could see a new rugby stadium and community facilities created on the Rec – new life could also be breathed into the neglected river frontage.

The opportunity comes at a time when Bath is seeing investment in its riverside areas, creating new business hubs, new homes and new public spaces adjacent to one of the city’s greatest assets – the River Avon. The Bath Quays and Bath Riverside developments are two such projects that when complete will breathe new life into once forgotten parts of the city.

Tarquin McDonald, Chief Executive of Bath Rugby, believes that there is an opportunity to create an exceptional new riverside as part of the Stadium for Bath project and is inviting the people of Bath to have their say.

“Over the past 12-months we’ve been consulting extensively with neighbours and many people across Bath and the resounding feedback has been a sense of optimism and excitement about the opportunity for creating something exceptional in the heart of this unique city.

“Over the coming months, we will be accelerating the design process not only for the new stadium but for the riverside too.  We want people to share with us their aspirations for the area which is such an important part of the city, with the opportunity be a jewel in the city’s crown. We would love to see ideas and examples from around the world of truly great riverside regeneration to help us create a place that can be enjoyed by everyone for many years to come.”

Grimshaw has also provided a selection of potential river activities and a wider selection of riverside development projects to open the debate up even further.

Tarquin McDonald concluded; “It might sound surprising, but we want these examples, provided by Grimshaw, to divide opinion. We want them to have the ‘Marmite effect’ because this way we will know what the people of Bath definitely do, and more importantly, definitely don’t, want to see in the designs Grimshaw bring forward.  There is a unique opportunity to transform a core part of our city into something truly amazing and I firmly believe that we will get this right if we all work together.

GRIMSHAW APPOINTED AS LEAD ARCHITECT

Following a rigorous selection process, Stadium for Bath – the project that brings together Bath Rugby, Bath Rugby Foundation and Arena 1865 – has appointed globally renowned firm Grimshaw as lead architect to realise the vision for a new community focused stadium in the heart of Bath – a certified UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Multi award-winning firm Tramadol Overnight Delivery Mastercard – whose design credentials span across the globe – have been appointed to develop plans for an exceptional new stadium, with a target capacity of 18,000, which will replace Bath Rugby’s current facilities at the Tramadol Online Overnight Mastercard in the City of Bath. Grimshaw’s current and previous experience includes sporting destinations such as the Wimbledon Master Plan, including No1 Court, the Curragh Racecourse; and the delivery of projects in sensitive heritage locations such as Thermae Bath Spa and the recently approved changes to the grade II-Listed former Herman Miller factory for Bath Spa University.

Stadium for Bath undertook a rigorous architect selection process. Design credentials and design process were key to selection but equal importance was placed on the individuals, the team and the way they work. In addition, as part of the pre-design listening process Stadium for Bath asked stakeholders, including local residents and supporters, to list their considerations for appointing a lead architect and design team.

The project team reviewed a long list of top-name architects and specifically engaged with eight as part of the selection process. A fundamental quality of the winning architect was the demonstration of its ability to listen and collaborate with all stakeholders as part of the design process.

Stadium for Bath intends to submit a final design for planning approval during 2018.

Commenting on today’s announcement Tarquin McDonald, Bath Rugby Chief Executive said:

This project is about a Club that plays its rugby and lives in the heart of Bath – a World Heritage site – and has done so for over 120 years. However, if we want to continue to be Bath Rugby and remain in the heart of this unique city we must be so much more than a rugby club. Stadium for Bath is about delivering a new home for Bath Rugby but it is clear that this project goes beyond that. It is about rugby as a catalyst for riverside regeneration in the centre of Bath and the provision of significant community benefits that create a legacy for everyone whether or not they are rugby supporters.

“We have spent months undertaking a robust architect selection process and believe that we now have the best team in place to design an amazing place to watch rugby and a truly exceptional destination that will become a jewel in the city’s crown.

“We will now accelerate the design process and we look forward to consulting with stakeholders across the city, including local residents and our supporters, as we all work together to create a brilliant legacy for Bath.”

Kirsten Lees, Partner at Grimshaw

“We very much look forward to working with Stadium for Bath to deliver this hugely prestigious and exciting project. The site’s sensitive and complex location demands a very special and unique design response in order to deliver the project’s aspirational objectives. The scheme is set to deliver wider benefits to the city including riverside regeneration and an enhanced relationship with the Recreation Ground in order to provide an exceptional new home for Bath Rugby, emblematic of its place, its community and the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath.”

The design aesthetic and stadium experience will be fundamental to the overall design solution. It is clear that the smart use of space at the site, the design of internal and operational spaces, and the landscape setting of the stadium will also be essential components of a successful design. Grimshaw has therefore appointed two further practices, Tramadol Pay With Mastercard and Tramadol Order Online, as sub-contractors to provide further design expertise on this unique project.

Kay Elliott has been appointed Destination and Interiors Architect. Kay Elliott will have overarching responsibility for designing the internal look and feel of the new stadium. Internal areas include hospitality, player areas, bars and toilets, together with non-matchday uses such as conferencing and banqueting.

Gross Max has been appointed to lead on riverside design and the public realm to ensure that they are delivered to an exceptional standard befitting Bath.
